Ingleside Inn began with a desire to preserve a place out of time. When we first visited this Palm Springs hotel, we noticed mismatched layers of character from many decades- dating back to the early 1920s. We also learned that most of the core hotel staff had worked there for more than twenty years. There was a quality of arrested time in much of the decor, and in the longevity of the staff’s employment. We envisioned each photo as a tableaux, carefully composing the portraits on the grounds as if we were creating a wax museum exhibit. We sought to amplify what was “still” in the life of each portrait. In 2017, Melvin Haber, the owner of Ingleside passed away. Ingleside Inn is currently undergoing renovation, redecoration and corporate homogenization.-G.L.
